Acadia 7’s Recap – By Matt Mitchell

Embracing the cold, rain, snow and sleet; the PigDogs men’s side competed in the Acadia 7’s tournament on April 07, 2018 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. This marked the first outdoor 7’s tournament of the season and represents a huge first step on our journey through the 2018 season. Though finishing the tournament with a less than ideal record of 0-2-1, the day consisted of many exciting building blocks for the team that will surely pay dividends moving forward. The day saw two new PigDogs play in their first games donning the PigDog jersey. Congratulations Malique Izzard and Lucas Robledo! The two formed a dynamic duo in the backs that will tear it up this season and for years to come. Also, we had a quartet of Pigdogs represent the Under-23 Nova Scotia Keltics at the tournament, Peter Masimo, Carl Drinovz, Alex Thompson, and Matt Bell made Dartmouth proud representing our province on the pitch with class and a bit of hard-nosed Dartmouth physicality. Representing the Female PigDogs was Claire Bragg, playing for her university team, Acadia.

Results of 2018 Acadia 7’s tournament:

Gold Medal – Acadia Varsity 1
Silver Medal – Valley Bullkitties
Bronze Medal – Acadia Varsity 2

Gold Medal – Acadia RFC
Silver Medal – Windsor RFC
Bronze Medal – Halifax RFC

All in all it was a fantastic day of rugby for the men. Three hard fought games, where a ton of valuable experience was gained for our lads. Great work to all of the men that competed in the tournament. We are excited to ride the momentum gained by this tournament into Pigdogs 7’s on May 5th, 2018.
