Q104 Hunger Strike

On Friday, October 10th, 2014, the Dartmouth PigDogs took part in Q104’s 11th Annual Hunger Strike at Sunnyside Mall.  The goal of the Hunger Strike is to stock Feed Nova Scotia’s shelves for Thanksgiving.

The Dartmouth PigDogs have created a friendly rivalry with Eastern Shore RFC to see who can donate more food by weight to this worthy cause.  The winning club gets bragging rights for the year with the real winners being Feed Nova Scotia.

This year the Dartmouth PigDogs were able to donate 1,228.5 pounds of food with the donations of club members and through fundraising efforts such as weekly 50/50 draws on wing nights at Dave Doolittles.  Eastern Shore RFC put a mighty effort forward as well, donating 565 pounds of food for a combined total of 1,793.5 pounds of food.  That is enough food to feed 105 families in Nova Scotia this Thanksgiving!

For the second year in a row, the PigDogs were the victors.  We look forward to continuing to support his event in the coming years.

Dartmouth PigDogs Adopt-A-Highway

The PigDogs have adopted a highway! We are now part of the Adopt-A-Highway Program, an international volunteer litter clean-up program created to help make roadsides cleaner, safer, and prettier!

This is a 3-year commitment project we have undertaken which requires two cleanups a year, one in the Fall and one during Spring.

Today, Saturday, October 4th was our very first clean-up!

After meeting at Dave Doolittles for 9:30am for a good ‘ol hearty breakfast,  We began our clean-up at 11am.

Thanks to the members who came out for the inaugural cleanup. It took more than six hours and we ran out of bags but we are looking forward to the next cleanup in the spring!
